Kesar Elaichi Gulkand — also written kesar ilaichi gulkand — is our rose gulkand with green cardamom (elaichi) and saffron (kesar) folded through it. It is made in the Haldighati valley of Mewar from four ingredients only: rose petals, mishri, elaichi and kesar, with no added colour, essence or preservative. The cardamom lifts the rose and the saffron rounds it off, which makes it a favourite by the spoon after dinner, in warm milk at night, and in desserts and paan. Each 500 g jar ships anywhere in India for a flat ₹39. Keep it in a cool, dark place with the lid tight; a clean, dry spoon is all it needs.

What is in kesar elaichi gulkand?

Rose petals, mishri, green cardamom (elaichi) and saffron (kesar) — nothing else. It is also written kesar ilaichi gulkand.

Does it contain sodium benzoate or any other preservative?

No. There is no sodium benzoate and no other preservative — it keeps because of the sugar (mishri), which is why it should be stored tightly closed in a cool, dark place.

How is it different from rose gulkand?

It is the same rose gulkand with cardamom and saffron folded through it. The cardamom lifts the rose and the saffron rounds it off.

How do you eat it?

By the spoon after dinner, in a glass of warm milk, or in desserts and paan — anywhere you would use rose gulkand.

Does it need to go in the fridge?

No. Store the jar in a cool, dark place, away from direct sun, before and after opening.

How long does it keep?

Twelve months from the packing date printed on the jar, unopened. Once open, keep it tightly closed in a cool, dark place.
