Diwali gift ideas from Rajasthan: rose gifts that keep

Diwali gift ideas from Rajasthan that are not another box of mithai: gulkand, rose sharbat, paan sharbat and rose water, and who each one suits.

The short answer

If you want a Diwali gift that is not another box of mithai, rose products from Rajasthan are a good choice: gulkand, rose sharbat, paan sharbat and rose water all keep in a cupboard, need no fridge, and get used long after the festival. Pick by the person — gulkand for someone who likes a sweet after meals, sharbat for someone who hosts, rose water for someone who cooks. Order early: delivery takes about 3–5 days after dispatch.

Why rose products work as a Diwali gift

Diwali week brings more sweets into a house than anyone can eat, and most mithai has to be finished within days. A jar of gulkand or a bottle of sharbat does not compete with the mithai; it waits. Ours are made with no added colour, essence or preservative, and all of them are stored in a cool, dark place with the lid tight, so they sit comfortably in a pantry through the festive season and beyond. Which one for whom

• Parents and elders: Rose Gulkand, rose petals and mishri only, for the after-dinner spoonful many families already know.
• Someone who loves rich flavours: Kesar Elaichi Gulkand, with saffron and green cardamom; it is especially good stirred into warm milk.
• The friend who always hosts: Clear Rose Sharbat. About 50 ml in 200 ml of chilled water, soda or milk makes a glass, so one bottle serves a lot of guests.
• The paan lover: Paan Sharbat, betel leaf extract and mishri syrup, with no supari and no tobacco.
• Someone who cooks: Rose Water, steam-distilled gulab jal, for kheer, phirni, lassi and biryani.

Pairings that make a fuller gift

We do not sell a gift box, but two or three products together make a generous present:
• Gulkand + Clear Rose Sharbat: one to eat, one to drink, both from the same rose.
• Rose Water + Kesar Elaichi Gulkand: for the cook in the family, who will use both in Diwali desserts.
• Paan Sharbat + Rose Gulkand: everything a meetha paan tastes of. Together they make a paan shake.
• All five: for a household you want to treat properly.

Are these healthy Diwali gifts?

We would rather be straight about it: gulkand and both sharbats are sweet, made with mishri, so they are not a health food. What they offer is a short ingredient list — rose petals and mishri, or rose water and mishri — with nothing added for colour or shelf life. Rose water has no sugar at all. Gulkand is traditionally thought of as cooling in Ayurveda and home tradition; that is a belief, not a medical claim. For anyone with diabetes, rose water is the safer choice, and they should check with their doctor about the rest.

Order early this festive season

Diwali falls on 8 November this year, and couriers are busy in the weeks before it. Delivery is a flat ₹39 anywhere in India; orders are dispatched in 1–2 working days and usually arrive about 3–5 days after that. We cannot promise a delivery date, so the earlier you order, the better. Payment is online only. In Udaipur (313xxx pincodes) you can choose to collect from our Bedla shop instead.
